On Monday, March 4, the National Guard selected Candler Elementary School’s (CES) Principal, Charlotte Clubb, as the recipient of the prestigious Patriot Award for her unwavering dedication to community, service, and excellence.
Students, staff, and families filled the gymnasium of the school, prepared to celebrate what would soon become a piece of history for CES. The award recognizes supervisors that are nominated by a guardsman for support provided directly to the nominator. Little did they know, this recognition would not only honor past achievements, but also ignite a spirit of unity and patriotism that would shape their principal’s future endeavors.
Ms. Clubb was nominated for this distinguished award by one of her very own teachers, Karina Padilla.
“I am very honored to have been chosen for this award,” Clubb said. “I wanted to celebrate this opportunity with our school community so students could understand the link to patriotism.”
Ms. Clubb has been an unwavering supporter of Ms. Padilla as she not only serves her school, but our country as well. For 18 years, Ms. Padilla has actively served in the National Guard. During that time she has missed being a part of the classroom. However, CES has always shown love and support to their very own soldier. It’s the support Ms. Clubb has shown to the military that won her this award.
“We are honored to have a National Guard member at our school,” said Ms. Clubb. “There are opportunities provided for teachable moments so that teachers can make students aware of the role our military forces take on. I believe that Ms. Padilla is a great role model for all students at our school, but what a shining example she is for our female students.”
