Title 1 is a Federally funded program. This program is designed to help children at schools with high poverty levels succeed in reading. Schools with high poverty levels receive Federal Dollars to assist in providing a high quality education in reading for those children with the most need. Students with the most need are able to receive small group reading instruction tailored to their individual need. Title 1 also allows our school, staff, to improve through Professional Development Training. It also provides parent outreach and teaching supplies
Here at Candler we have four highly qualified instructional assistants and one Literacy Specialist. We meet with students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. We have created lessons that provide the essential components of reading: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension. Our lessons are tailored to meet student needs.
Our lessons have rereading for fluency and word building activities, and work to enhance oral and written comprehension beyond a basic level.
Each grade level meets daily for 60 minutes except for Kindergarten, which is 30 minutes.
Each grade level has its own Title 1 Compact. The purpose of these compacts is:
* Meant to encourage children to understand how they can improve their own reading ability through agreeing to read nightly and always try their best
* Meant to show that Candler has high expectations of ourselves and our children, so we will provide the highest quality instruction and reach out to parents through conferences
This is an exciting year! We will be partnering with the educational resource ReadyRosie to share powerful games and expert videos that support you and your child in his/her learning. Through our partnership with ReadyRosie you will have free access to their learning website and tools.
