Candler School encourages party invitations to be mailed directly to the student’s home address.  The school chooses not to be involved in distributing invitations to birthday parties or special events.  When students invite only a few class members to an activity they unintentionally cause others to feel left out.  The only exception to this rule is when the entire class is invited to attend the activity.

Student birthdays are recognized each morning on the announcements.  A birthday pencil is given to each child on his or her birthday.  Classrooms will set a date near the end of each grading period to recognize all birthdays occurring during that 9-week span.  The homeroom teacher will notify parents and give them the opportunity to bring in a special snack (per our school’s Healthy Child policy).  Parents are asked not to bring sugary snacks such as cupcakes or cake, but are encouraged to bring healthy foods and drinks (ex. Popcorn, fruit or fruit cups, juice).  Parents may choose to bring craft supplies for a fun craft rather than food.  In accordance with Buncombe County policy, snacks cannot be homemade.

If you send flower and/or balloon arrangements to celebrate a birthday, you should make arrangements to pick up your child at the end of the school day.  These items are not allowed on the school bus.  Arrangements will not be delivered to the classroom.  They will be held in the office and given to the child just before he/she leaves to go home in car-rider line or afterschool.
