Student Dress

We require students to dress appropriately for school.  Students should wear comfortable clothing, but should avoid items/accessories that draw unnecessary attention that could potentially disrupt the learning environment or pose a threat to safety.  Vulgar words and tasteless messages on clothing are inappropriate.  Loose, baggy jeans and platform shoes are a serious safety hazard and are not appropriate school attire.  Cropped tops, halter tops, short shorts, skirts, and dresses (shorter than the tip of the index finger when one’s arms are hanging along his/her side) are prohibited.  Hats, caps, kerchiefs and other head coverings should not be worn to school except on dress-up picture day or for a school spirit event.  Outrageous hair styles and hair colors should also be avoided.  Appropriate play clothes and lace-up tennis shoes are strongly recommended on the days students have physical education.  Roller skate tennis shoes are prohibited.  Students are highly discouraged from wearing flip-flops or shoes with elevated heels and they should not be worn on PE days.  Heavy chains (ex. Wallet chains) attached to pants should not be worn to school.  Chains, key rings, or toys should not be attached or hanging from book bags.  Students dressed inappropriately will be asked to call home for a change of clothes.
