Daily Assignments and Memos
Homework Assignments:

Monday through Thursday night, your student will be reading a book on their level, so it's "just right" for them. Please listen to your student as they read, and talk to them about their book when they are finished. Here are some questions you can ask your student about their book:

What happened in the beginning of the story?
What happened in the middle of the story?
What happened at the end of the story?
Who were the characters in the story? Who was the main character?
What was a problem? How was that problem solved?

NonFiction (informational)
What was the main idea of the book? (what was this book mostly about)
What text features do you see? (Photograph, caption, chart, bold words)
What new facts did you learn?

You student will also study their "trick words" every night from Fundations. Trick words are "tricky" because they cannot be sounded out. They are also known as sight words. As they are quizzed on their trick words and pass, they will move their way up on the "Trick Word Rainbow". There are 93 total trick words for first grade. Please study these 10 minutes every night with your student so they can read them fluently.
Your student will also have the opportunity to work with their rainbow words at school, so please keep them in their book bags every day.
