Candler School believes that students learn best when the family is involved in the learning process.  Families of younger students can be involved by checking the student’s book bag and school folder each day.  Many teachers take the time daily to write personal comments on the folder regarding the student’s progress.  All students benefit when an adult reads with them, discusses content and shows an interest in their learning.  Communicating with teachers on a regular basis and attending school events is encouraged.

Parent volunteers provide important services to our students and establish a vital link between school and community.  Buncombe County Schools now requires all volunteers to complete a background check process before being approved to work with students.  Effective for the 2016-2017 school year, anyone wishing to volunteer must have registered in the new on-line Volunteer Tracker program.  You can register by visiting www.buncombe.k12.nc.us/volunteer.   Please review Policy 1310/4002 – Parent Involvement located on the Candler School website (http://www.buncombe.k12.nc.us/Domain/2014) or on the Buncombe County Schools website (http://www.buncombe.k12.nc.us.org).  This policy reviews the parental notifications that principals are required to share annually.  Volunteer applications may be picked up in the school’s office or are available on the website.  Please consider volunteering in your child’s classroom.  Contact the homeroom teacher and schedule a time to help.  Parent volunteers are asked to give teachers at least a day’s notice before volunteering in the classroom and are asked not to bring younger siblings when you are scheduled to volunteer.
