Meet Your Teacher!

Welcome! I just wanted to give everyone a little background information about myself so that you can better understand the person teaching your precious child. I grew up in a very small town called Hayesville, North Carolina and I have always wanted to become a teacher. To fulfill this goal, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNCA. In addition, I received my K-6 licensure.

After I graduated, I married my college sweetheart and we stayed in Asheville. This is the start of my 10th year of teaching in Buncombe County! I am blessed to be teaching at Candler. It is such a wonderful and dedicated school!

In addition to my public school experience, I worked part time at Hayesville Child Development for seven years. ( Actually, my first group of pre-schoolers are in college!) This allowed me to gain a better understanding of children and gain valuable experience that enabled me to become a better teacher.

I want you to know that I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach your precious child. I do not consider this a job. Teaching is my calling and I love what I do! A theme in my classroom is to try, try, try your very best. If I expect that from my students, in return, they will see the same from their teacher! It is a passion of mine to see every child succeed to the best of their capability!

While I am not at school, I enjoy being outside, taking LOTS of pictures, listening to music, playing volleyball, decorating, going out to eat, singing with my mom, and most importantly spending time with my family and friends.

Teacher Assistant

We welcome Mr. VonDohlen to the third grade team this year! He is a very familiar face at Candler. He is a bus driver and his wife is a fifth grade teacher. We are very excited to have him in our classroom!

We are both very excited about this coming school year and all that it will hold. We promise to do everything that we possibly can for each child, in order to see them shine in the classroom. If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us. You may call me at the school or write a note in your child’s folder. Let’s work as a team to make this the best year ever!
